| Hortons' Estate Limited is an independent family owned property company that was founded towards the end of 19th Century by Isaac Horton and first incorporated in 1892.
Isaac of Lichfield in Staffordshire was a pig farmer and retail and wholesale butcher. He acquired the Midland Hotel in New Street, Birmingham which he went on to develop in 1871, and also the Grand Hotel in Colmore Row, Birmingham. By the time of his death in 1880 he had created a substantial property and provisions business. He is buried at Key HIll Cemetery in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. |
In the early part of the 20th Century the Company acquired the Atkinson Brewery and expanded its food and beverage operations. It was largely as a result of this connection that the Company's property holdings in Wolverhampton were built up. In the 1950's the brewery was sold and Hortons' Estate was re-incorporated into the company of today. Many of the properties acquired in these early years have provided the foundations upon which the present portfolio is based. |
