  Hortons' has always been actively involved in development.

In the early years this was associated with our investment portfolio, with buildings such as the Grand Hotel, Colmore Row and the Midland (now Burlington) Hotel, New Street.

During the 1980's Cathedral Court, Colmore Row was developed and this was followed in the 1990's by 128 New Street, Birmingham and a comprehensive redevelopment of the Burlington Block.

Most recently we have completed the construction of Wayside 3 a 26,846 sq ft warehouse at Wayside Business Park at J3, M6 to the north of Coventry.

The Company has also been involved in a number of development projects outside its main portfolio.

In 2008 we developed two Industrial/ warehouse units of 28,111 sq ft. and 40,584 sq. ft. at Hollymoor Point Rubery, Birmingham, which were subsequently let or sold. At the site we have additional land available for a 90,000 sq ft building.

At Kettering Venture Park, adjacent to J9, A14 we built the first phase six B1 offices ranging from 2,024 sq ft. We have 2 acres of further land available for future development.

Three completed office developments at Swindon, Meriden and Birmingham Business Park were completed via our Business Homes joint venture. All units are now sold.

 

The Company has formed a joint venture with Chase Commercial to develop 4 acres of land close to J9 M5 at Ashchurch where we have planning consent for 71,818 sq ft of distribution space. The site is close to Ashchurch mainline station.

Other sites within the portfolio with letting or development opportunity are located in Willenhall, near J10 M6, and at Crosspoint in Coventry, where there is consent to build a headquarters office building. We also have a 2 acre site on Vale Park in Evesham, which has planning consent for a courtyard office scheme.

Despite the current market conditions we completed, in conjunction with our partners Trebor Developments LLP, development of Hagley Road Retail Park. The park comprises
18,000 sq. ft. in five units all of which were let during construction and are now open.

In May 2011 work started on our latest project a 49,000 sq ft. Industrial unit for NVC at Hollymoor Point, Rubery. Completion is scheduled for December .
